Chemical Peels
Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to make skin smoother, reduce scarring, alleviate acne, lift pigment (brown spots/sun spots/hyperpigmentation/melasma), and fight fine lines and wrinkles. At Beautifully You Aesthetics we carry the VI Peel by the Vitality Institute. This unique medium depth peel contains a proprietary blend of acids that penetrate to the papillary dermis which is where all the damage begins (ie. pigment, acne, scarring, and loss of elastin and collagen). Our favorite part? This chemical peel is SAFE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES and painless!
There are 5 medical grade peels in the VI portfolio, which allow us to customize treatments to meet both your primary and secondary skin concerns. Each peel contains (at least) the following 5 acids:
- Retinoic Acid: this powerhouse acid penetrates the skin inhibiting melanin production and increasing cell turnover.
- Trichloroacetic Acid: TCA then targets signs of aging by boosting collgen and exfoliating the skin.
- Salicylic Acid: prevents inflammation by killing bacteria and exfoliating the inside walls of pores.
- Phenol: This is the secret weapon that numbs the skin allowing for a painless application.
- Ascorbic Acid: a powerful antioxidant that reverses free radical damage, evens skin tone, and prevents future damage.
Chemical Peel Procedure
Prior to applying the peel, you will wash your face with our gentle cleanser by Neocutis. We will further cleanse and degrease your skin using the acetone cleansing pad contained in the peel kit. The peel solution is then applied in layers until the solution is gone. The whole process only takes approximately 20 minutes. You will leave with a post-peel care kit and detailed instructions on how to care for your face for the next 7 days.
Post Peel Info/Tips
- A peel can result in tingling or throbbing, reddened skin, and/or slight swelling that lasts, depending on the strength of the peel used, about a week.
- For best results, follow the details instructions in your post-peel kit
- The first 2 days your skin will look a little tan, bronzed, or pink. It may also feel tight right before the peeling begins--avoid sun exposure, sweating, and prolonged exposure to heat. No exercise for 72-96 hours--inducing excessive perspiration can lead to PIH or blistering
- During the peeling phase you MUST avoid sun exposure. Even after the peeling is done, your new skin will be sensitive to UV light--Protect your investment and use sunscreen everyday and don't forget to reapply!
- The amount of visible peeling you experience varies greatly--you will peel as much as your skin needs to peel
- Resuming skin care products:
- Non-actives: can be resumed once peeling has subsided, usually day 6-7
- Actives: can be resumed once peeling has subsided and sensitivity has returned to normal, usually day7-10.
- Additional skin care treatments: it is recommended to wait for a minimum of 2 weeks before any treamtent that creates exfoliation or the skin (this includes facials, waxing, extractions, threading, and lash extensions)
- You next VI Peel can be scheduled in 4-6 weeks
