Frequently Asked Questions
Is it painful?
No! There is a mild sensation of heat that is very tolerable, at times a slight pinching feeling may occur when treating specific spots. This is one of the key technical breakthroughs of Aerolase technology. The New Elite has set a new standard for vurtually pain-free treatment, even on darker skin types, thanks to the 650 MicroPulse-1064 technology. This unique benefit saves time, cost, and mess by eliminating gels and sprays required by other lasers that cool the skin during treatment (but can also be irritating to the skin as well).
What is the downtime after a treatment?
Virtually none! It is common for the skin to be slightly pink after the treatment for approximately 20 minutes to 1 hour. (If spider veins, angiomas, or age spots are treated their coloration can deepen prior to lightening/disappearing. Otherwise, you can continue on with the rest of your day as you normally would!
How often should treatments be performed?
This varies based on what condition we're treating with the laser. For acne, treatments are done every 1-2 weeks, for most other treatments, typically every 4 weeks for a series of 4-6 treatments. Again, depending on the condition that's being treated, maintenance treatments after the inital series is completed are recommened approximately 1-2 times per year to maintain results.
How is this laser safe for darker skin tones when other lasers aren't?
The Neo Elite is the safest laser in the industry for darker skin types or tanned skin. - Patients who are taking photosensitizing medications, such as Accutane, should consider discontinuing the medication 6 months prior to treatment
- Patients who are taking topical Retin-A (ie. Tretinoin) should stop appilcation 2 weeks before treatment
- Sunless self-tanning lotions/serums should be stopped at least 3 weeks prior to treatment
- Any raised lesions, aside from purely red ones (ie. angiomas) should first be checked by a dermatologist prior to treatment
